Longwood Gardens Visit
June 5th, 2001

By charter bus, forty club members started out bright and early on a Tuesday morning for an all day visit to Longwood Gardens in Longwood, Pennsylvania.  It was a beautiful summer day, not too hot and low humidity which is unusual for the Washington D.C. area.  Our driver took us through some beautiful landscaped streets and homes in Wilmington, Delaware to give us a taste of what was to come.  We arrived around 10 am, eager to see the gardens.  Below are a few photos from this event.  We hope you enjoy them.

Lead by BGC president, Geoff White, these club members visit one of the gardens many water features, the eye of water.

Eye of Water Fountain.  This water feature was inspired by a similiar one found in Costa Rica.  It was built at Longwood in 1968.  The water feature sits above a 90,000 gallon reservoir and is the unique source of water for the waterfall.

Club members are preparing to view one of a noon time foundation show at Main Fountain Garden.
Built in 1931, there are 380 fountains and spouts set in Italian limestone basins and canals.
