Title:       Great Native Plant Alernatives: Kicking the habit of gardening with invasive exotic plants

Joan Feely will talk about making better choices with both native and non-invasive exotic plants.  Gardeners can play a part in creating a new landscape standard, one without carpets of english ivy or promiscuous purple loosestrife.

Since 1986, Ms. Feely has been the Curator of the Fern Valley Native Plant Collection at the U.S. National Arboretum, a branch of the Department of Agriculture's Agricultural Research Service in Washington,  D. C..  She is also responsible for the National Grove of State Trees, and a three acre forest restoration project adjacent to the Arboretum's Beech Woods.  Ms. Feely has a MS in Horticulture from the University of Maryland and a BA in human ecology from the College of the Atlantic.
