Carol Warner

We are delighted to welcome Carol Warner as our featured speaker at the April 24, 2019 meeting, at the James Duckworth School, 11201 Evans Trail, Beltsville, MD, at 7:30 pm.

Carol Warner will talk and answer questions about different varieties and show slides of different types of bearded and beardless irises to produce a long season of bloom for the garden. She will have handouts and talk about the culture and garden placement of hybrid and species irises. Most of her slides are taken in her garden and feature a large collection of companion plants. Take a preview peek at her presentation by visiting http://www.draycottgardens.com

Carol is the owner of Draycott Gardens, a small web-based mail-order business specializing in beardless irises. She is a Maryland native and graduate of the University of Maryland. Her 42-year relationship with irises began in 1976 when she joined the Francis Scott Key Iris Society. She is an American Iris Society Emeritus Judge and past president of the Society for Siberian Irises and t he Society for Japanese Irises. Her gardens have been featured in Good Housekeeping, Chesapeake Home, Baltimore Magazine, and also on HGTV’s A Gardener’s Diary.

We first heard of Carol from Richard Olson, who mentioned that the National Arboretum had obtained lovely Irises from her and that Draycott Gardens would be on his list as a field trip to wish for. He was seconded by Lynn Title. Carol has invited us to visit Draycott Gardens when many irises are in bloom, and order irises for August/September transplanting. A date convenient for her TBA, more info. to come.

The meeting is free and open to the public. Please bring a plant or plant related item for the door prize table. Refreshment donations are appreciated.
