The speaker for this month is Carol Hamelink and her topic will be “GESNERIADS”.
If you have grown or seen an African Violet, you have already been introduced to a Gesneriad. Other members of this interesting plant family include Gloxinia, Cape Primrose, Lipstick and Goldfish plants. Ms Hamelink has been a member of the Baltimore African Violet Club for five years and a member of the National Capital Area Chapter of the Gesneriad Society for seven years. During this time she has won numerous awards for both African violets and gesneriads that she has entered in both local and regional judged shows. Carol won best in show, best standard violet, best semi-miniature violet, and other violet categories. She currently grows more than one hundred cultivars of African violets and more than fifty different varieties of gesneriads. Please join us to hear this informative speaker.
As always, we have plants for our door prize table and refreshments after the meeting. The public is welcomed and admission is free. For more information, contact Louise DeJames at 301 890 4733. Louise DeJames Publicity Chair Beltsville Garden Club 301 890 4733 lrdejames@msn.com
